Official Steam capsule art: two people at a candlelit table with dice, one in a pale shirt and one in darker clothes

Players and the Game Master

Sources checked Steam appdetails categories and the 8 Oct 2026 launch post for what is official. Shop upgrades and the sweater rack are from Eisenfang’s guide, updated 19 Oct 2026.

Quick answer

Steam does not list a character select, a class, or a roster. The people at the table are the players. The antagonist is the Gamemaster, also spelled Game Master in the patch notes.

Personal power is bought. Health, stamina, speed, inventory, and the milk bottle belong to the buyer. Furniture belongs to the room.

Sweater colors are cosmetics at 25, or 1500 for gold, and the guide says they reset with the save.

Jobs like idol runner or lookout are tactics a table invents. They are not unlocks. Custom Mode’s monster figurines are a collection, not a second player character.

If you came here for a tier list of characters, the store page will disappoint you on purpose. Invokyr’s Early Access pitch is the board, not a fighter select.

What the studio shipped instead of classes

The 8 Oct 2026 launch post spends its feature list on boards, monsters, events, dice, cursed idols, House Rules, and the shop. It never names a playable character. The store categories are single-player, multi-player, co-op, and online co-op, plus text size, volume, subtitles, stereo, and family sharing. No “classes” tag exists to hide a roster behind.

The capsule art shows people in ordinary clothes at the table. The community shop list matches that: you buy a sweater color, you do not unlock a third protagonist.

V0.44.11 started drawing player stats on the portraits in the game room. That is the client’s own summary of whoever has bought what. Prefer it to a screenshot of this table after the next balance patch.

The Game Master

The store story is a 1970s board game in an abandoned house. A beloved toy is now the Gamemaster, and escape means playing. The final idol is that figure’s soul. Sealing it is the win condition the community guide and the launch post agree on.

The Game Master Mask, in the shop list, lets you wear that face and pass enemies for a limited charge that refills between boards. It does not make you the host of the board. Custom Mode, after you have beaten the Game Master board, lets the table pick monster figurines. You are still the players. You are choosing which hunter the collection remembers.

More lore about the house and the Game Master is on the Early Access roadmap, not in a character bio. The Henry notes on Secrets are the side story the community guide has actually transcribed.
